Finding A Groove

So, we're in our 6th month of our first year of homeschooling, so we should have everything figured out by now, right? Eh, not so much. I did however realize that planning full lessons for five days each week was not working for us at all. It seems that there is always one day a week that we have to delay school or miss it entirely because of field trip, playgroup, or general illness. Then we end up falling behind on lessons and get stuck in a trap of constantly playing catch up. So we have done a full revamp and now I plan lessons for 3 days a week and fun learning activities and experiments that can be done on the other 2 days. This is working out so much better for us and keeps us from feeling like we're always behind, An added bonus is that it helps take a lot of the stress off of me as the teacher and it also helps me manage the tougher school days much better. If E's s having a day where he's being too distracted or wiggly, I can do one of our hands on activities and move the workbook page or worksheet to one of our light days without obsessing about being behind for the week. And a happy teacher makes it much more likely to have a happy student :)
